To celebrate the European Day of Justice, 25-26th of October, 2019
With the support of CEPEJ and EELRC the conference «Bringing Justice Closer to European Citizens» was held in the Gdańsk University during the celebration of the European Day of Justice on 25th of October 2019.
The central theme(s) of the conference were how to efficiently inform citizens about their rights, strengthen confidence in judicial system and measure the quality of justice. These were excellent topics for discussion and gave us an opportunity to exchange news and practice, discuss ideas and proposals, and, of course, share our doubts and suggestions concerning the most important problems of current judiciary and civil procedure reforms, which sometimes seemed to be very similar.
The participants from all of the Europe attended this event and took part in the discussion, in particular, professor C.H. Van Rhee from Maastricht University (the Netherlands), professor Radoslaw Flejszar from Jagellonian University (Poland), professor Tatjana Zoroska-Kamilovska from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (Macedonia), Dr Vigita Vebraite from Vilnius University (Lithuania) and others. Professor A. Uzelac from Zagreb University (Croatia) and professor Elisabetta Silvestri from Pavia University (Italy), who were not able to attend, passed their welcomes and the reports.
Professor Wojciech Zalewski, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk and professor Anna Machnikowska, Chair of the Civil Procedure Law and Vice-President of the University of Gdańsk, the Civil Chamber Judge Dariusz Zawistowski emphasized the importance of the substantive dialogue between the scholars and practitioners from all different states with the aim of ensuring the access to justice in Europe in their welcoming speeches.
